tl;dr: I'm stepping down as administrator of There's Life. I'm looking for a replacement. If I can't, you have until December 31st to find a new instance to call home.

I know I've said this before, but this time it's for real.

I was 14 when I started There's Life. I'm 18 now, and my life is going in directions that make running this instance impractical. Including the possibility of pursuing higher education.

I've enjoyed interacting with all of you and providing a comfortable nook of the Fediverse for Christians to thrive. I will never regret my part in that.

I'm looking for someone who can run this in my stead, taking over administration of the instance, its virtual machines, and its finances. Last time I handed off the instance to someone, they had their own obligations to fulfill, and management mostly reverted to me. I can't do that this time.

Here's the ultimatum: if no successful complete transfer of power happens by the end of November, There's Life will be discontinued. I will stop paying all administration fees and the server will shut down. There's Life will go offline no later than December 31st.

If you are interested in taking over, please contact me. I'm hoping to transfer everything as soon as I can. You must be committed to either running it indefinitely, or passing it along to someone else who is.

I'm also willing to educate those with some understanding of Linux servers on how to run Mastodon instances or help transfer it to a service like

There's Life members, please share your thoughts! This decision is about you. Please ask any questions you have about this, and I'll do my best to answer. I can't say everything in one post. :-)

@masterofthetiger Massive kudos to you, creating and administering such an important and valuable instance as a teenager! I hope you find someone to take it over, as your instance is truly a breath of fresh air in the fediverse.

@masterofthetiger how much resources is it using? Like Ram, average cpu load, storage. If it's not too hefty I can host it on my server.

@PetabyteStudios It's pretty hefty. 4GB+ of RAM and around 30%+ of a two-core virtual machine. I think we can manage continuing to pay for a VPS.

@masterofthetiger So you are mainly looking for somebody to keep the instance up to date and manage it when it goes down?

@PetabyteStudios Yes, and some people on There's Life are considering doing this.

I would basically relinquish my whole role as admin and have nothing to do with There's Life anymore.

@masterofthetiger i tried to reply before but my client told me your post had been deleted.what would you estimate ti be the ⌛ & $ commitment?

@fuat2mb A couple hours a week at most and less than $20 a month.

@masterofthetiger hmmm that $20 a month might be more than my nerd would let me sneak in the budget meeting

@fuat2mb Some other members of There's Life are willing to pitch in with the cost.

Others have also mentioned helping out hosting. If you have a Matrix account, I can add you to the Life Network chat if you're interested.

@masterofthetiger not yet but I suppose I should set one up. Recommendations on how to start?

@fuat2mb Going to https;// and signing up with the homeserver is the easiest way.

Once you set it up, tell me your Matrix ID or open a DM with and I'll add you to the room.

@masterofthetiger you just rejected my chat invite

@fuat2mb Yeah, I'm sorry. I tried to accept it but it didn't work. Then I tried to invite you and got an error as well. It's probably a federation problem, which is weird but happens sometimes.

I'm trying to invite you again now.

@fuat2mb It looks like runs an old version of Matrix. 😔 I don't think I can fix it on my end.

@masterofthetiger no problem I should have followed your instructions instead trying to be cool

@fuat2mb Trying another homeserver is understandable! It's how federation is supposed to work. It's just that Librem One is undermaintained or something.

I sent you a DM invite
