Wonder why this stanza is missing from modern hymnals:

Teach me to live, that I may dread
The grave as little as my bed.
Teach me to die, that so I may
Rise glorious at the awful day.


@zudn maybe because the meaning/connotations of the word 'awful' have changed?


What could substitute for it?
I think too nobody wants to be reminded of death today, much less learn how to die.
